![]() Rowland Davidson graduated in Fine Art in 1967 and for several years he was head of Art and Design in a Belfast Secondary School. His early work included experiments with Abstraction, Hard Edge and Realism but has finally matured into Figurative work with a special interest in Irish characters in their natural environment. He has enjoyed painting since his childhood and had his first two-man show in the New Gallery, in Belfast in 1969, but decided to devote himself to his family and teaching career while his children now 17 and 19 were growing up. He resumed serious painting in 1981 and since then has shown work in the Royal Ulster Academy and several group shows being also included in his collection of the D.O.E. as well as many private collectors. In June 1987, he knew that the time had come to paint full time enabling him to research his subject more deeply and devote himself to his work professionally thus realising a lifetime ambition. He held his first one-man show at the Roy Edwards Gallery of Fine Art, Portadown and subsequently his success has been meteoric now having a virtual ‘waiting list’ for his work. |
